Creative Lesson Plans for Infants and Toddlers

The first years of your child's life are the most important in his or her development. A few key creative lesson plans will help your little one progress into a caring, intelligent and productive adult.

Nursery Rhymes

Perfect pitch is unnecessary when you sing nursery rhymes and simple songs to your child. Repetition builds cognitive development as well as language skills, and finger plays help with coordination.

Blocks

Playtime is important for child development, and you need the right types of toys. Old-fashioned blocks are the gold standard. Infants may watch you stack them, and older babies will clutch them. As your child grows, his building will improve until he has created imagined structures.

Outside Time

Taking your baby outdoors is imperative for her well-being. Start with your own neighborhood when she is an infant; she will use all her senses exploring her environment. Soon time at the park, on the hiking trail or even at the beach will give her lasting benefit.

Mommy and Me

Mommy and Me classes let your child interact with other children. He will see older children and mimic their physical movements, and he will widen his vocabulary. Many different classes in music, art, gymnastics and other activities are available in your community.

Art

Once your baby can sit up, she can try her hand at art making. Simple, non-toxic fingerpaints or crayons are a great start. She may just observe you making art first, and then give it a try when she is ready.
