Where Can I Find Black Roses?

Some deep red roses look almost black.

A truly black flower doesn't exist in nature. You can, however, find dyed black roses, or natural roses that are quite dark. Artificial roses can also be black.

History

Historically, black roses have been steeped in powerful symbolism. In the language of flowers, black roses symbolized death, grief, remorse and other powerful emotions.

Types

In nature, no known flowers are truly black. Some flowers, however, are so dark as to appear almost black. You can find flowers such as the Black Beauty and Black Baccara roses, which have dark red petals that appear black in certain lights. You can find these in most rose-growers' catalogues, and florists often sell them as cut flowers.

Considerations

To get the desired effect, consider dyed or artificial flowers. You can buy dyed black roses from florists, or you can make your own.
