Borax
-
According to the Green Living Tips website, a mixture of borax and sugar or borax and honey attracts and kills ants, silverfish and other insects. Setting borax insect traps in the yard may free the yard of spiders by killing the arachnids' food source.
Warnings
-
Do not sprinkle borax directly on grass as it may be toxic to grazing animals. Use gloves and avoid inhalation when working with borax.

Natural Spider Repellents
-
Those looking for a natural spider repellent may find lemon juice, osage oranges and even tobacco leaves to be more effective, according to the Dollar Stretcher website. Consider placing crushed chestnuts around the yard in lieu of borax.
