What to Do if Your GE Oven Doesn't Come On
The most common issues that occur with GE ovens can be easily fixed without the help of a professional. If the oven will not turn on at all, it indicates an electrical problem either at the main power source or within the oven itself. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Blown Fuse/Circuit Breaker
-
Check your home's fuse box first. A blown fuse or circuit breaker is the most common cause of power failure to an appliance. Fortunately, it is also the most easily repaired, since the blown fuse/circuit breaker simply needs to be replaced.
Damaged Power Cord
-
If no fuses or breakers have blown, cut the power to the oven and pull it out from the wall. Inspect the power cord for signs of wear such as fraying, kinking, bending, or incomplete connection. Worn cords must be replaced, and replacements are available at any appliance store or from the GE website.
-
Faulty Oven Wiring
-
If the power cord is okay, there could be faulty wiring in the oven itself. Unplug the oven and carefully remove the back panel. Inspect all internal wiring for signs of damage such as breaks, fraying, or scorched areas. Any damaged wiring should be replaced with the correct appliance-grade wire and connectors.
Oven Improperly Set
-
If the wiring is in good repair, your oven controls may be improperly set. Consult your owner's manual for the proper control settings for your particular model. If this does not fix the problem, contact a service center.
