Long hair is viewed as a symbol of beauty or attractiveness. So it can get frustrating if you're trying to grow your hair out with little success. There are numerous hair products that will promise you longer hair. But one product may not give you what you need. Sometimes there are medical reasons and hair styling techniques that inhibit hair growth and make it appear that your hair won't grow longer. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Biological Reasons

Hair is made of protein called keratin and needs vitamins to support its growth and strength. If you're dieting, you could be missing out on much needed vitamins. Stress, hormonal imbalances and aging can also keep your hair from growing. Drink plenty of water, eat a balanced diet and talk to your doctor if something appears to be a problem. Medical conditions and some medications can pose a problem for hair growth.

    Hair Styling

    • The way you style your hair could also contribute to stunted growth. Overuse and improper use of blow dryers, curling irons or other styling aids can break off the ends of your hair and make it appear as though your hair does not grow. Rubber bands or ribbons placed on the ends of hair can also cause breakage. In fact, any style that leads to over-manipulation or constant styling can contribute to breakage.

Beware of chemical processing and dyes where crèmes and gels are left on too long or used improperly. Kids Health warns, "Relaxers containing lye can cause skin irritation and hair breakage."
