Maui has a reputation of being very expensive, however frugal travelers can save significantly on lodging by following a few key guidelines.

  1. Packages and Discounts

    • Call the hotel directly to inquire about packages and discounts, as many offer discounted rates to AAA or AARP members. Some hotels include continental breakfast.

    Condos vs. Hotels

    • When traveling in a group of four or more, a condo may be more affordable than a hotel. Condos are plentiful on Maui, giving the traveler many choices. Condos will have kitchens where you can cook meals in or stock snacks and drinks, saving considerable money. There is a wide range of condos on Maui, from modest places with dated furnishings and no air conditioning to luxurious units with stylish décor.

    Location, Location, Location

    • Find accomodations in Honokowai, Keehana or Napili, which are just North of the more expensive and bustling Kaanapali Beach. Another option is Kihei, a condominium are where you will pay less than at the beachfront properties because you will need to cross the street to get to the ocean.

    Off Season

    • Spring and Fall are the slowest seasons in Maui. Rates are lower and the weather is still beautiful.
