Before going to the airport, know what can and cannot be packed in your baggage.

Hairdryers are allowed on airplanes, along with other electronic tools and devices, including various hair styling tools like curling irons and hair straighteners. While hairdryers are technically allowed on the plane, they must be packed into your carry-on luggage or in the personal baggage you are allowed to bring on the plane.

  1. What Is Allowed on Planes

    • Liquids under 3 ounces are allowed on planes. This includes shampoos, conditioners, lotions and other forms of liquid. Liquid or gel medications that exceed the 3-ounce limit may be brought on the plane, but must be declared to the transportation security administration worker when you go through security for extra screening of the product. Baby formula is also allowed to go past the 3-ounce limit. Clothing and other personal items such as blowdryers, curling irons and other styling tools are also allowed on the plane within your carry-on luggage.

What Is Not Allowed on Planes

    • Weapons including guns, bow and arrows, knives, bombs and other possibly destructive material are not allowed on the plane. Consider shipping these items to their final destination instead of bringing them to the airport.

    Weight and Size Limits

    • You are allowed one carry-on luggage item along with a personal item, such as a purse or laptop carrier. Carry-on luggage must be under 40 pounds and a maximum of 51 linear inches. You can check-in luggage that is up to 50 pounds and 62 linear inches. Check-in luggage often costs a fee to be stowed in the airplane, along with an extra fee if the luggage is above the weight and size restrictions. Carry-on luggage is usually free.
