The stock market has a plethora of acronyms and abbreviations that investors need to be aware of. If you see "OB" before or after a ticker symbol, that means the stock trades on the Over The Counter Counter Bulletin Board.

  1. Be Clear About OB

    • If you've seen the letters OB before or after a stock's ticker symbol, you've probably thought that the stock is a bulletin board stock, and you would be correct, but there's a little bit more to it than just knowing that the stock is a bulletin board issue.

    What Is An OB Stock?

    • Any stock with the OB designation does not trade on a major exchange like the New York Stock Exchange or Nasdaq. These stocks do not meet the listing requirements of the more senior exchanges.

    A Specific Designation

    • OB pertains specifically to Nasdaq stocks bulletin board stocks, but this designation does not mean an OB stock trades on the Nasdaq Composite, which is home to large-cap stocks like Apple and Google. OB stocks are not members of the Nasdaq Composite.
