General Motors purchased Chevrolet in 1917 and since has produced a wide variety of vehicles that many consider classics. The 1956 Chevy Bel-Air is considered by many car enthusiasts as one of the finest automobiles the company ever produced. The 1956 Bel-Air four-door featured a 265-cubic-inch, small-block V8 engine with a Powerglide automatic gearbox and 185 horsepower.
El Camino

The Chevrolet El Camino was first introduced in 1959 and was intended to offer the comfort of a larger vehicle with the utility power of a Chevy truck. The El Camino was a direct response to the success Ford had with its Ranchero, also a hybrid of a car and a truck. The 1959 El Camino was discontinued two years after its debut.

The Corvette

The Chevrolet Corvette was first introduced in 1953 and featured a fiberglass body, a Powerglide transmission and a 150-horsepower engine. The 1955 Chevy Corvette featured a small-block V8 engine with 195 horsepower. The 1956 Corvette, equipped with a 210-horsepower engine and a three-speed manual transmission, was the first Corvette to offer a removable hardtop.
