Code of Conduct for Baseball Parents
Little League of America drafted their Sport Parent Code of Conduct, which is a document that parents, or parental guardians, are required to sign when a child signs up to play baseball. If a parent does not adhere to the code, that parent will be ejected from the game and suspended for the next game.
-
Function
-
The code of conduct is based on the premise of utilizing sports to help children develop real-world skills like "fairness, respect and good citizenship." The code makes it clear that parents are attending their child's sporting events to offer support and encouragement.
Features
-
Parents who sign the code agree to exhibit positivity and sportsmanship. They are reminded not to push their children into playing a sport and that the sport is centered around all children having a good time.
-
Considerations
-
Parents also agree never to use profane language or gestures, never to argue with a coach or referee, never yell at a child for losing a game or use ridicule to discipline a child. Parents also agree not to use drugs or alcohol at any sporting event.
