Can I Machine Wash Dry Clean Comforters? thumbnail
It's possible to clean your favorite comforter at home.

"Dry clean only" is a type of label found on many products, including clothing, comforters and other types of bedding. No matter what the label says, you'll find it possible to machine wash most of your dry-clean-only products at home. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Types

    • You have two options when cleaning your dry-clean-only comforter at home: in the washer or in the dryer. Home dry-cleaning kits include a special solvent you apply to any stained areas of the comforter. These are used in the dryer only and remove both stains and smells.

    Process

    • When cleaning your comforter in the washing machine, use a cleaner for delicate fabrics, such as Woolite. Use cool water and set the washer for the lowest setting, which won't agitate or damage the comforter.

    Considerations

    • If you aren't sure about the fabric used in your comforter, try washing the comforter in a large sink or bathtub with cool water. Mix the comforter into cold water and add a small amount of laundry soap or Woolite. Rinse with fresh water and gently press out any excess water. Let dry overnight.
