Zune Install Problems
To get the most out of your Zune handheld, you must install Zune desktop software to your PC. The software allows you to manage your media, make new purchases, keep your system updated and perform other important functions. There are a few common issues that may arise when attempting to install the software.
-
Enable Cryptographic Services
-
If Cryptographic Services is disabled, your Zune software may not be able to install the correct drivers. Click "Start" and select "Run," then enter "services.msc" and click "OK." Right-click "Cryptographic Services" and select "Properties." Type "Automatic" in the "Startup Type" box, then click "Start" to enable the service.
Update Windows
-
Update your Windows to the most recent version with Windows Update (see Resources). This online service automatically scans your computer and installs the most recent Microsoft patches. Your operating system must be fully updated to install Zune software.
-
Check Minimum Requirements
-
Ensure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements for Zune software installation. You can view these requirements by clicking the "Zune minimum requirements" link in "Resources." Typically, you'll need 200MB of free space and a 500Mhz processor.
Start Clean
-
Try a "clean startup" installation. Type "msconfig" into the Run prompt. Click "General" then "Selective Startup." Uncheck "Process SYSTEM.INI File," "Process WIN.INI File" and "Load Startup Items." Click "Services" and uncheck the "Hide All Microsoft Services" checkbox. Click "Disable all" and then "OK" to save. Restart your computer and try the installation again.
