Denturist Act

Denturist Act thumbnail
Making dentures is just one service a denturist offers.

The Denturist Act is the legislation that designated the Denturist Association of Canada as the profession's regulatory and licensing body. Each province and territory passed its own Denturist Act to ensure consistent services and licensing requirements throughout Canada.

  1. Scope of Denturist Services

    • Denturists make removable dental devices including full and partial dentures and athletic mouth guards. They are responsible for every aspect of making the false teeth fit properly and look natural. They make the impression of the mouth, choose the artificial teeth and make the denture. They also repair dentures. Services are provided directly to patients and a referral from a dentist is not necessary. Denturists cannot perform dental examinations, extractions, fillings or provide treatment.

    Membership Required

    • The Denturist Association sets the standards for training and education required to become a Registered Denturist (RD). RDs must be licensed and remain members in good standing of the DAC for their professional fees to be covered under Canadian health insurance plans.

    Finding A Denturist

    • The Denturist Association office in each province and territory maintains a list of RDs. Dentists and other dental professionals can make referrals or recommendations.
