Scooter Problems

Troubleshoot a scooter before spending money on a mechanic.

Like any vehicle, scooters might experience mechanical issues. When this happens, several things might have happened. If you or a friend have experience with basic automobile repair, check for common problems before spending money on a mechanic.

  1. Will Not Start

    • Many scooter owners experience this issue. At times, not using the scooter regularly will result in an inability for the scooter to start properly. First, check to make sure the scooter has fresh gasoline. A lack of gas or stale gas will make the scooter unable to start. If this does not fix the issue, the problem might be electric related.

    Low Power

    • If the scooter does not respond, reach its top speed or cannot climb hills properly, the engine might suffer from low power. The most common reason for low engine power is a loss of tire pressure. If tires do not contain the proper pressure, the scooter power will suffer. To remedy this problem, just fill the tires with air.

    Will Not Stay On

    • A scooter might start properly, but not have the capacity to stay on. This problem especially creates trouble for riders who drive on main roads or freeways. A clogged air filter, bad spark plug or water in the gasoline tank might cause the scooter to behave this way.
