Laptops come in sizes ranging from 7-inch netbooks, to larger, professional-grade versions with 17-inch screens.
Screens

The size of a laptop is generally determined by its screen. Screens can be small or large and can have a matte or glossy finish. Glossy screens are bright and are great for a darker room. Matte screens can help reduce glare in bright rooms or direct sunlight.

Memory

The amount of memory, or RAM, your computer has determines how many applications your computer will be able to run simultaneously, and how fast it runs them. If you plan on running video games or video editing software, purchase a computer with several GB (gigabytes) or RAM.
Hard Drives

All laptops have some sort of built-in hard drive capable of storing a certain amount data. A solid-state hard drive can be more expensive than a traditional hard drive, but since it has no moving parts, it will be more well-protected should you drop your laptop.
Battery Life

Laptops can be plugged into the wall, but also run on batteries. Different laptops can last for different amounts of time on their included battery. Typically ,the smaller the screen on a laptop, the less battery power it will use and the longer the laptop's battery life.
