What Can You Do With Old Eye Glasses?

Many people upgrade their eye glasses and donate old pairs.

Many people have at least one pair of unused eye glasses sitting around. They may have changed prescriptions or updated the frames, but the old glasses could still be usable. Fortunately there are many uses for an old pair of eye glasses.

Recycle

Old eye glasses can be recycled in some areas. Glass lenses can be removed and recycled with glass. Plastic lenses or frames can be recycled with plastic. Metal or wire frames can be recycled with metal.

Donate

Many charities accept used eye glasses. Local charities, such as the Lion's Club, may recycle used eye glasses or give them to people who cannot afford new ones. International charities, such as Vision Aid Overseas, send glasses from the UK to people overseas who need them and cannot afford them. Reading glasses can be given to a family member or friend who can use them.

Have Fun

Many people choose to get creative with old eye glasses. With the lenses removed, they can be used as part of a Halloween costume, for puppets or for children to play dress up. Used eye glasses can be added to a decorative plant or animal for a humorous touch.
