How to Buy Charter Communications Stock

Charter Communications is a broadband communications company and cable operator that does business in the United States. The company provides a range of broadband services, such as Internet service, digital cable television and phone services.

  1. How To Buy Charter Communications

    • Buying shares of Charter Communications stock is very easy if you have an online brokerage account. If you don't have an existing relationship with a local broker, sign up for an online brokerage account at an online brokerage house, such as E-trade, Charles Schwab or Scottrade.

    Funding Your Account

    • After opening an account with your online broker, you have to fund the account with money to purchase stock. Go to a branch office near your house and write a check with your account number on it, or electronically fund your account with an online transfer from either your checking or savings account.

    Buying the Stock

    • In order to make a trade, you have to know the ticker symbol for the stock. As of Sept. 2010, the ticker for Charter Communications is CHTRQ.PK, as it trades over the counter, and not on a regular exchange such as the NYSE or NASDAQ. The company is in the process of bankruptcy, so the ticker may change after it reemerges from bankruptcy. Enter the ticker symbol in the "Symbol" box. Next, type in the number of shares you want to buy under the "Number of shares" box. Lastly, click the button indicated for placing your order.
