Speech Quality of VoIP
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that allows your Internet connection to act as a phone line, allowing for direct audio communication between multiple parties. While VoIP carries many benefits, there are still many drawbacks that could affect speech quality.
-
Internet Connection
-
The first key to a successful VoIP call is a solid broadband Internet connection. Since VoIP relies so heavily on the Internet, a poor connection typically translates directly to poor speech and call quality.
Microphone and Speakers
-
Another chief component of VoIP speech quality is the microphone used to speak and the speakers used to hear. Many headsets are designed specifically for VoIP, making them the most obvious choice for superior quality.
-
Computer Specifications
-
Even the specifications and capabilities of your computer play a role in VoIP voice and call quality. Random Access Memory (RAM) is a good example, as with low system RAM it will be difficult to open and properly use any program, including VoIP software.
VoIP Software
-
Lastly, the VoIP software you use could be the cause of poor call quality. VoIP is a rapidly advancing technology, so using an old or outdated program could negatively affect quality. The simple solution is to upgrade to a newer version of your desired VoIP software or choose a more reliable program.
