Mobile notaries offer the convenience of traveling to the client's location.

The roles and responsibilities of public notaries have changed over the years. Rather than being stuck in a small cubicle inside an office building, notaries are branching out to meet their clients, coining the phrase "mobile notary."

  1. Definition

    • Notaries are authorized to administer oaths and certify certain documents. Any notary willing to travel to the client can be considered a mobile notary. Mobile notaries most often refer to notaries traveling to a client's location for the purpose of witnessing a loan or mortgage signing.

    Training & Certification

    • The National Notary Association, or NNA, has devised a certification program designed to educate notaries on the ins and outs of performing loan signings. Upon completion of the self-study program, notaries become Certified Notary Signing Agents and are marketed for their skills and knowledge in the field.

    Knowledge Gained

    • The certification program includes handling different types of mortgage documents and safeguarding client privacy. The program also teaches laws and regulations associated with loan and mortgage signings. Certified notary signing agents receive priority listing on the NNA's website, increasing their income potential.
