Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) treat injuries and save lives at the scene of accidents, heart attacks and other medical emergencies. They require certification at minimum and experience unpredictability and excitement on the job.

    • The PayScale.com Report states that as of September 2010, EMTs made a base hourly rate of $10.69 to $15.73, with $15.40 to $23.59 per hour for overtime. Adding annual bonuses places yearly salary at $25,988 to $41,986.

    Experience

    • EMTs have a beginning yearly salary of $24,386 to $30,692. At one to four years of experience, they get $25,447 to $40,656 and at five to nine years, they receive $29,962 to $44,550. At 10 to 19 years, they earn $37,502 to $55,564 and at 20 years or more, they make $35,562 to $60,155.

    Employer

    • The type of employer can affect salary, with private firms offering the highest pay at $33,064 to $52,179, followed by state and local government at $30,510 to $49,995. At the opposite end are hospitals at $25,943 to $40,886 and the federal government at $26,972 to $44,102.
