Importance of Computer Networking & Security

Computer networking is the basis of the Internet. Methods of communication are available to us today which would not be possible without computer networks. The Internet has revolutionized access to information to those who have the equipment to connect. Company networks increase productivity by allowing computers to specialize.

Function

Data networks carry out tasks which were originally supported by other technologies. Private telephone networks are an example of this. By adopting Internet technology, companies are able to integrate their telephone system with their data networks. As the technology develops, networks become easier to set up and to monitor. Specialists can operate the network by remote access, and so it is not necessary to keep expensive in-house technical staff. So, computer networks reduce costs.

Features

Networking enables more people to pool information within a company. Information is centralized, and repetition of information is eradicated. The output of one business process is the input of another. Networks enable business functions to be completed faster and without the possibility of important information being overlooked or concealed.

Vulnerability

Wider access means greater opportunity for attack or theft of data. Security features are essential to ensure confidentiality and to prevent data loss or impersonation.
