What Is the SSID for an iPAQ?

Newer IPAQ PDAs can access the Internet with built in Wi-Fi.

A number of the newer Hewlett Packard IPAQ personal data assistants can connect to the Internet using any available wireless network SSID. It is a powerful PDA that lets you check email, surf Web pages and sync with your online calendar without connecting to a PC.

The SSID is the Service Set Identifier that is broadcast by the wireless access point so that you can identify snf vonnrct to the proper wireless network.

The SSID for your IPAQ is the name of the network you want to connect to. You can choose any network that is open (where access is not available to anyone without the proper security password) or any closed network for which you have a password.

Activating IPAQ Wi-Fi

In order to use a Wi-Fi network connection, you may need to turn on the IPAQ's wireless networking. This is done using the "Wireless Manager" under the "Connections" tab of the "Start > Settings" menu. An LED icon on your device will usually indicate when the Wi-Fi is turned on. Turning the Wi-Fi off when it is not in use can help conserve battery power.

Connecting to Wi-Fi

Find the wireless network SSID for your IPAQ using the "Wi-Fi" program in the "Connections" tab. It will display any available Wi-Fi networks in your area. Select the network SSID name you want to connect to with your IPAQ stylus and enter the password for that network if it requires one. Tap the "Next" button twice. Your IPAQ will display when it has successfully connected to your desired SSID. You can now check your email or surf the Web using Wi-Fi.
