Ward off ants with natural remedies.

Often before you enjoy the fruits of your labor, ants can invade a garden, ruining the fruits and vegetables you planted. Fortunately, the insects can be treated naturally without causing harm to a garden or the environment. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Fruits and Vegetables

    • When a trail of ants is spotted, squeeze the juice of a lemon onto the ant mound or trail to alleviate the insects from a garden. Alternatively, place cucumber peels in the area where the ants trail or congregate to serve as a deterrent to the pests. Ants avoid cucumber peels because they're toxic to the fungi they eat.

    Coffee Grounds

    • After your morning cup of coffee, save the coffee grounds for the garden rather than putting them in the trash. The scent of coffee grounds naturally repels ants.

    Herbs and Spices

    • Check your pantry or spice rack for fresh black pepper, chili pepper, mint or cayenne pepper---and then sprinkle liberally in the area of your garden plagued by ants. Like the coffee grounds, the herbs and spices illicit a smell that repels ants.
