Although wasps are considered beneficial insects, having them in and around your house can be dangerous because of their sting. There are insecticides available that can help you rid your home of wasps and wasp nests. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Time Frame

    • According to the University of Minnesota, the best time of the year to eradicate wasps is in June. At this point of the year, the wasp queen will have already established a colony but the number of wasps in the colony will still be quite small.

    Considerations

    • The type of insecticide you use on wasps depends on the location of the wasp nest. Some insecticides are more effective on ground nests while others are useful for nests that are concealed in voids.

    Types

    • According to the University of Minnesota, the insecticides Sevin, Dursban and Orthene are the most effective on ground wasp nests in either dust or liquid form. However, if the nest is concealed, insecticide dust is much more effective.
