Law Enforcement Test Preparation
Starting a career in law enforcement can be challenging because of the nature of the tests involved and the large number of applicants. A number of resources are available to help with preparation for the tests.
-
Types
-
Law enforcement tests may vary slightly depending on what state you are applying in and the job you are applying for. Local law enforcement tests will be different from the tests used for federal law enforcement jobs.
Practice
-
According to the website Police Exam Info, some study manuals focus on the math and verbal skills required for the test while failing to cover scenario questions like those in actual police tests. For this reason, it is important to do full practice tests in the run up to your exam. The Peterson's College website has practice tests available for purchase online.

Guides
-
Many exam preparation guides are available for purchase from online book stores such as Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The website Jobcop.com recommends several books to help for federal law enforcement as well as books created for individual states. The recommended study guides contain study information as well as practice tests. Examples include "Federal Jobs in Law Enforcement" by Russ Smith and "Police Exam Preparation" by Norman Hall.
