Flash Drive Vs. Hard Drive Speed
Flash drives and hard drives are two different data storage devices. Flash drives and hard drives have a various capabilities and features that differ from each other.
-
History
-
Hard drives were introduced in 1980 by Seagate Technologies. Flash drives were later introduced by Trek 2000 International in 2000. The first Flash drives were called ThumbDrives.
Speed
-
Flash drives access time (speed) ranges from 35 micro-seconds to 100 micro-seconds, while hard drives rotating disk (speed) ranges from 5,000 micro-seconds to 10,000 micro-seconds. Flash drives are 100 times faster at reading data compared to a hard drive.

Features
-
Hard drives are primarily stationary methods of storing information, while flash drives are primarily portable methods. Flash drives do not have any mechanical parts, whereas a typical hard drive has mechanical arms and spinning platters. Flash drives can endure severe shock and vibration damage without the loss of data, unlike a hard drive.
