How to Compare Contact Lens Solutions
All contact lenses require cleaning, disinfecting and rinsing on a daily basis. Using the right solution for the task is important to the health of your eyes. Remember to discard all solutions after the use-by date on the bottle.

Uses
-
Different contact lens solutions are used for different purposes. Daily cleaning, rinsing and disinfecting of contact lenses is essential for their care. There are separate solutions for each of these tasks, and a multi-purpose solution which does all three also is available. Re-wetting solutions lubricate the lenses while they are worn and keep the eyes moist.
For Sensitive Eyes
-
Sensitive eyes can be easily aggravated through itching or burning caused by preservatives, particularly thimerosal, in contact lens solutions. Solutions without thimerosal are available.
-
Cost
-
Calculating the cost per fluid ounce of the solution will highlight the cheapest solution. However, buying in bulk, or buying a large bottle, is only cost effective if all the solution is used before the expiration date.
