To some people, saving the Earth may seem like an impossible and overwhelming task. But in reality, everyone can take small steps to make the planet a healthier place. In fact, children can even join in through a variety of school projects for saving the Earth.

  1. Recycle

    • A school-wide recycling campaign can be as simple or complex as your school desires. For a simple "Save the Earth" project, place recycling bins in each classroom and ask students and teachers to recycle paper. For a more complex school project, place large recycling bins in the school gym or near the office. Ask students to bring in plastic bottles, aluminum cans and cardboard boxes from home to recycle.

    Clean Up Town

    • Take a field trip to a local park or community area and allow the kids to spruce it up. Supply young students with gloves and garbage bags and ask them to pick up trash. Supply older students with buckets of soapy water to wash down play sets, picnic tables or benches. At the end of the long day, celebrate by planting flowers and decorating the pavement with sidewalk chalk.

    Walk to School

    • Ditch the school buses for a day and challenge students to walk or ride a bike to and from school. This school project requires a tremendous amount of support from faculty and parents to ensure student safety. However, it will likely make a huge impact on fellow community members as they watch young children make a commitment to save the Earth.
