Fruits & Nuts Diet

Fruits & Nuts Diet thumbnail
A raw food diet can be maintained by eating fruits and nuts.

A diet based primarily on fruits and nuts contains less trans and saturated fats than a diet including processed or cooked food. Fruit and nut diets, or diets based on uncooked foods, are typically known as raw food diets.

  1. Raw Food Diet Benefits

    • Fruit and nut diets are generally high in fiber and potassium and low in sodium. Advocates of fruit and nut diets believe they improve the health of the body's skin, reduce the risk of heart disease and increase daily energy levels. Proponents of organic foods also believe such diets help with digestion and weight loss.

    Food Preparation Techniques

    • A large part of preparing raw foods depends on whether or not variety is added. Raw foods can be kept simple by eating fruits or nuts in the state they were purchased. However, when adding variety to such a diet, juicing fruits or dehydrating them can be an option. Nuts can also be soaked.

    Potential Side Effects

    • When starting a raw food diet, the body may undergo a negative detoxification reaction. The lack of caffeine and sugars in a fruit and nut diet can lead to cravings, nausea, and headaches, especially if the previous diet featured heavy doses of sugars. These side effects can persist for several days as the body adjusts to better handle its new intake.
