How to Compare Dishwasher Soap Performance
The best way to compare different dishwasher detergents is to see how each one cleans your dishes in your dishwasher. By testing different detergents you will discover which one works best for you regardless of what the commercials say. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Preparation
-
Purchase small boxes or bags of the different detergents you want to try. Buy larger amounts when you know what you like.
Make sure that your dishwasher is running at peak performance before trying to compare different soaps and detergents. Run the dishwasher with no dishes and a quart of white vinegar before embarking on your trials with different detergents.
Variables
-
Remember when comparing soap performance in your dishwasher to control for other variables. For example, fill the dishwasher with the same amount of soap for each test run. Use a full dishwasher for each test, and make sure the water is hot enough for each test. Water should be at least 130 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal dishwasher performance.
-
Considerations
-
After running the dishwasher with a detergent that you are testing, write down the results. Write down if all of the detergent dissolved, if the glasses are clear or have water marks, and whether there is any leftover food or grease on the dishes. Also write down the cost of each detergent; purchase the same size containers for your testing so you can compare cost easily.
