Store Management Training
Store managers oversee sales workers in a retail establishment, such as a department store. According to the Occupational Information Network (O*Net OnLine), a store manager is also called a first-line supervisor or a retail sales manager.

No educational requirements exist for store managers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The College Board, a nonprofit that connects students with educational opportunities, recommends an associate degree or bachelor's degree as a way to learn skills to manage others. Related majors include business administration and management, general business, human resources management, and sales and distribution.
Experience

The BLS states that retail training teaches attendees about customer service, merchandising, and the basic policies and procedures of a retail establishment. Many supervisors started their retail careers as cashiers, salespersons or customer service representatives. College students may take part in an internship program within retail.

Tools and Technology

The Occupational Information Network reveals that managers train to use tools such as ladders, PC magnetic card readers, personal digital assistants (PDAs), credit card processing terminals, telecheck processing terminals and security cameras. Store managers may also learn technology such as calendar and scheduling software, database use interface and query software, human resources software, point of sale (POS) software and time accounting software.
