How to Compare Mini Laptops
Mini laptops offer portability at a much lower cost than their larger counterparts. When comparing mini laptops, you need to know how you are going to use your computer.
-
Design
-
Screen sizes on most mini laptops range from 8.9 inches to 10.2 inches (anything smaller than 8.9 inches will be too small if you are using it for surfing the Internet or for word processing). The keyboard size on mini laptops is close to full-size laptops, but the size and spacing of the keys varies. Look for one that is comfortable for your hands, especially if you are using it for taking notes.
Battery Power
-
Mini laptops have smaller batteries than full-size laptops. Most will have a 3-cell battery, which lasts for about 2 to 3 hours. If you are using your laptop to record notes in class, consider a 6-cell battery, which lasts about 6 hours before recharging is required. The applications you use will impact the battery life.
-
Operating System
-
Mini laptops use either Linux or Windows operating systems. Linux is less expensive, but it does not support as many software applications as Windows. The best operating system will depend on the applications you are planning to use.
