Bridal Shower Gift Registry Etiquette

Registering for gifts can be one of the most exciting parts about planning your wedding, but it can also be one of the most stressful. Always remember to consider your guests when creating your registry and follow wedding registry rules of etiquette.

  1. Where to Mention the Registry

    • Never mention gifts or include registry information on a wedding invitation. You may include registry information on a bridal shower invitation. In either case, do not mention your desire for cash-only gifts.

    Where to Register

    • Make your registry accessible. Be sure to choose at least one retailer with online and in-store shopping. Choose well-known national retailers over local boutiques. Register at as few or as many stores as you feel comfortable, but registering with two or three stores generally does the trick.

    Be Budget-Conscious

    • Register for gifts in a variety of price ranges. Some shower guests may wish to pitch in and buy you one larger gift. Other guests may be on a budget and prefer to purchase inexpensive, yet practical items.

    Do Not Push the Registry

    • Do not insist that your guest utilize your registries. Some guests may use your registry as more of a guide than a wish list. Some may feel purchasing off the registry is more thoughtful, while others may have something more personal in mind. If you do not like a gift, you can always return the item later.
