Duct Tape & Warts

A 2002 study published in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine reported that you can remove certain kinds of warts easily and painlessly using duct tape. However, a followup study in 2007 found this method less than successful. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. 2002 Study Findings

    • Participants in the 2002 study covered their warts with duct tape for six days. CBS News explains that they then removed the tape and scraped the wart with an emery board. Participants repeated this process for two months or until the wart vanished. This method had a higher success rate than cryotherapy, according to the results of the study.

    2007 Study Findings

    • The 2007 study was published in the Archives of Dermatology. It compared the results of participants who used mole skin or duct tape to cover their warts. The participants in the study noticed no substantial difference in results between the treatment methods.

    How to Remove the Wart

    • The Warts website suggests applying original gray duct tape to the wart. Leave it in place for six days. Afterward, peel off the tape, soak the area in warm water, and use an emery board to scrape the wart off. Repeat the process until the wart vanishes. The website suggests that the method may be useful because warts need oxygen to survive.
