The Tea Tree Natural Remedy for Itchy Scalp
Tea tree oil can naturally help an itchy scalp--its antibacterial and anti-fungal properties can fight infections and assist in restoring the scalp to a healthy balance. Tea tree oil benefits itchy scalps caused by dandruff, fungal infections, lice and dry skin. While it is generally safe, do not use this natural remedy directly on the scalp--dilute it in another oil or in water first. Does this Spark an idea?

Effects
-
Tea tree oil can relieve the symptoms of an itchy scalp, but it can also help with dandruff and other root causes of itchy scalp. It can help relieve itching associated with less-common fungal infections, such as scalp ringworm and tinea amiantacea. Usually the only side effects include irritation and redness, which will disappear after ceasing use of the tea tree oil.
Types
-
Concentrated tea tree oil often comes in a small, dark glass bottle, usually with a dropper. Dilute this form of tea tree oil in another oil or lotion, such as grapeseed oil or shea butter, as the straight tea tree oil is likely to irritate the scalp. Tea tree oil also comes in pre-mixed shampoos, ointments and oils, providing a more convenient method of application.

History
-
Tea tree oil comes from the leaves of the tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia), which is native to Australia. This oil does not have any connection to drinkable tea, which traditionally comes from the Camilia sinensis plant. Aborigines have used tea tree oil for several thousand years as a natural remedy primarily for skin injuries, such as infections and cuts.
