History of Crayola Markers

In the 1890s, Joseph Binney and Harold Smith formed a partnership, later starting Binney & Smith, the company that manufactured Crayola brand products. In 1902, the company started producing slate pencils. At first, the Crayola product line included only crayons and pencils, but to celebrate its 75th anniversary, the company introduced colored markers in 1978.
