Eating "live" yogurt may help fight H. pylori.

Helicobacter pylori is the bacteria responsible for many common stomach complaints, such as gastritis, gastric and peptic ulcers, and in some cases, stomach cancer. The bacteria can be spread via the food chain and water supply.

  1. Fruit and Vegetables

    • Eating a diet high in vitamin C, including lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, has been found to help the body fight off H. pylori bacteria. These foods also contain high levels of antioxidants, which help fight infection.

    More Fiber, Less Sugar

    • Plenty of fiber is essential for proper bowel function. Bacteria thrive on sugar, so avoiding added sugars such as those found in chocolate, cakes, cookies, and soda drinks, is also recommended. Drinking sufficient water will help with hydration and balance the stomach's mucous layer.

    Pro-Biotic

    • Taking a pro-biotic supplement, such as Lactobacillus acidophilus or Lactobacillus salivarius, will help prevent the bacteria colonizing, and also keep it from "attaching" to cell walls. Pro-biotics are also found in natural "live" yogurt. Drinking green tea, black tea, or red wine has also been shown to fight against this infection.
