What to Do If You Spill Soda on a Laptop
It's tempting to drink some wine or soda while surfing the Internet, but it can be quite catastrophic if you accidentally spill that drink on your expensive laptop. Acting quickly and knowing how to clean up the mess can help prevent a costly repair.

Immediate Actions
-
As soon as the liquid is spilled, immediately flip your laptop upside down to prevent the liquid from seeping further into the machine. Do a battery pull and unplug the AC adapter, since the worst damage caused by spilled liquid occurs when circuits short out.
Clean Up the Mess
-
Use a lint-free cloth to absorb as much liquid as possible. Use a slightly damp cloth to wipe anything sticky you can reach, including the screen, buttons and keys.

Repair Damage
-
Some laptops are designed to guard circuitry from accidental spills. If you can see that the soda has seeped under the keyboard, you may want to bring the laptop to a professional to have it disassembled and cleaned. Though the dried soda won't short-circuit the hardware, it does have corrosive properties.
