Does Sevin Dust Pesticide Get Rid of Cutworms?

Sevin Dust is one form of Garden Tech's line of Sevin broad spectrum pesticides. Granules, a concentrate, and a spray are also available. The active ingredient in all Sevin products is carbaryl.

Cutworm Problems

Sevin Dust pesticide, which is made by the company Garden Tech, does get rid of cutworms according to the product literature. Cutworms are most noticeable from the damage they cause to lawns and gardens---they get their name from their preferred eating habit of chewing right through plant and grass stems right at ground level.

Application

Sevin Dust pesticide should be applied wherever homeowners or gardeners notice birds, starlings in particular, poking holes into the ground in search of worms. Garden Tech recommends always following package directions strictly regarding the rate of application for an area.

Considerations

Gardeners should be aware that Sevin Dust is not intended for use on humans and is not pet-safe. Additionally, the Garden Tech website makes no mention of it being safe for use in vegetable gardens or on edible plants. Emphasis is placed on its use in lawn and turf grass situations, so gardeners may wish to seek other solutions if vegetable gardens are afflicted with cutworms.
