The Advantages of Neodymium Woofers

Neodymium is a rare, metallic element often used in the construction of magnets for woofers. There are many benefits offered by neodymium woofers that give them advantages over other types of woofers.

  1. Weight

    • One of the largest advantages associated with neodymium magnets is that they are relatively lightweight compared to other types of magnets used in woofers, such as iron-ferrite magnets. Sound systems that employ neodymium woofers are significantly lighter than sound systems that use other types of woofers.

    Power

    • Neodymium magnets are some of the most powerful magnets on Earth. This type of magnet is much stronger than the standard iron-ferrite magnet used in woofers. As a result, woofers can be created smaller yet offer the same performance values as larger woofers.

    Cost

    • Despite the rarity of neodymium, woofers that feature neodymium magnets are not linked with much higher initial purchase costs than traditional iron-ferrite magnet woofers. Depending on size and the manufacturer, neodymium woofers can cost anywhere from a few dollars to a few thousand dollars.
