Welding Safety Policies
Welding is a valuable and demanding skill. It can also be dangerous. For that reason the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires certain measures to ensure the safety of the welder.
-
Fire Hazards
-
Fire hazards in the immediate vicinity of the welding area need to be relocated. If the item can't be moved, then guards should be put in place to protect the fire hazards from the heat and sparks.
Combustible Materials
-
If openings or cracks in the floor or walls exist, then the welder needs to take precautions to prevent any combustible materials on the other side of the floor or walls from being exposed to sparks that could cause them to ignite.
-
Fire Extinguishers
-
Welders should keep materials to extinguish a fire on hand. This could include fire extinguishers, buckets of either water or sand, or a water hose, depending on the nature of the combustible material.
