    • If your family receives Temporary Assistance benefits or Supplemental Social Security Income benefits, you also qualify for Medicaid in Louisiana. You may also be eligible if you meet the requirements for one of the various categories of eligibility, which include families with children, disabled individuals and those age 65 or older. Enrollees receive a Medicaid ID card and can receive services from certified Medicaid providers.

    Pregnancy Medicaid

    • If you are pregnant, you may be eligible for Medicaid through the LaMoms program. Income guidelines are set at 200 percent of the federal poverty level and based on family size. In 2010, for example, a family of three can have a monthly income of up to $3,052. In addition, certain deductions are made from your income, including $90 for each employed person and up to $50 of child support received, as well as some childcare expenses.Benefits covered include doctor visits, delivery and hospital care, and lab work.

    Emergency Situations

    • Louisiana Medicaid also provides coverage in certain emergency situations. For example, women without health insurance who do not meet the regular eligibility guidelines can receive screenings and treatment for breast and cervical cancer. Also, if you are infected in with tuberculous, you can receive treatment for this illness through Medicaid. Undocumented individuals are eligible for coverage in emergency circumstances only, including labor and delivery, according to the Human Resources and Services Administration.
