According to the BLS, the median wage of an RN was $62,450 annually in 2008. The highest ten percent earned $92,240, while the lowest ten percent brought home $43,410.

Types

Nurses working in employment service made the most money in 2008, followed by those employed in hospitals and doctors' offices. Those working in nursing homes and providing home care made about $10,000 less annually than the others did.

Potential

Because of a shortage of nurses, the job outlook is excellent, according to BLS. Many nurses are overworked due to the shortage. Only 21 percent belong to unions.
