What Proof is Needed for a K-1 Visa?
For most foreign born nationals to enter the United States they must first apply for and receive a visa. As with all visa types, a K-1 visa requires a list of documents and proof before the United States will approve the application.

The K-1 Visa

The K-1 visa is often referred to as a fiance visa. A K-1 visa is issued to a foreign national who is engaged to be married to a United States citizen and allows them to travel to the United States and get married within 90 days of arrival.
General Requirements
-
You must complete two non-immigrant visa applications and one non-immigrant fiance application, submit two photographs, provide a passport valid for at least six months longer than your intended stay, include a police report, birth certificate, divorce records if previously married, and a medical examination.

Specific Proof for the K-1 Visa
-
Along with the general requirements for a visa, for a K-1 visa the sponsor (American citizen or permanent resident) must prove she can support the applicant while he is in the country as he will not have permission to work. Additionally, documentation of the relationship between the sponsor and applicant may be requested such as photos, letters or other evidence the relationship is legitimate.
