How to Compare Facial Products

Understanding skin types helps with choosing the proper facial products.

It is important to know what type of skin you have before choosing a facial cleanser or makeup. Some skin types require specific products for the best results. There are even facial types that are a combination of types which can be more difficult to choose products for.

Oily

Oily skin is a troublesome skin type that is prone to acne. The skin may appear shiny at times due to the excess oil produced through the pores. Skin products made specifically for oily skin types will not clog pores and will reduce the shiny appearance. Powders are popular options for this skin type as they absorb excess moisture.

Dry

If someone's face is always dry with flaking skin, an exfoliating facial cleanser will scrub off the excess skin. Using a moisturizing cream will help to reduce any dry skin and liquid foundations containing moisturizers will keep the face from being dry throughout the day.

Combination

Combination skin is both oily and dry in different places. This is a difficult skin type to buy products for since many options cover only dry or only oily skin. If you have such a skin type, consider products that exfoliate as these will not make the skin oilier while dealing with the dryness. Foundations with a very light moisturizer help with the dryness without causing excess oil and a light powder will absorb extra oil.
