How to Compare Cheap TVs

If you are budget minded, then finding a cheap TV is more important than getting the latest and greatest TV on the market. With bigger and better TVs coming out every year, the old, cheaper options are becoming harder to find.

  1. Types

    • The cheapest TVs come in two types: old-fashioned CRT TVs and small LCD TVs. As of 2010, you could get a 27-inch CRT or 15-inch LCD for $250.

    Size

    • CRT TVs used to come in a range of sizes, but now that manufacturers are scaling back on their production of CRTs, the largest you can find new is 27 inches. If you buy a used one then you will have a better selection. LCDs come in sizes from 7-inches to 108-inches, but a cheap one will be around 15 inches.

    Benefits

    • For your money, you can get a bigger CRT than LCD. The CRT will come with several drawbacks, however, including inferior picture quality and bulkiness. The main advantage of a CRT TV is cost. An LCD, although smaller, will have a better picture quality and will take up less room in your home. You can even stick it on the wall.
