The Average Cost of a Hunting Trip to Alaska

The Average Cost of a Hunting Trip to Alaskathumbnail
Hunting in the Alaskan wilderness would be a once in a lifetime experience for most people.

Hunting trips to Alaska vary by how long the hunt is and what type of animal is being hunted. The different factors will determine the trip's cost. On most trips hunters will spend one or two weeks, or even longer, in the Alaskan wilderness.

    1. Hidden Costs

      • The price advertised for a hunt usually only includes the actual hunt. It does not include transportation to and from Alaska, and may not include transportation to the hunting site. You must also pay for hunting licenses, which could be $300, as well as all your equipment.

      The Hunting Trip

      • As of 2010 the average price of a weeklong hunting trip for black bear was around $6,000. That is only for the hunt itself, including a guide, lodging and meals while hunting.

      Total Cost

      • Prospective hunters can usually figure on paying a total cost of about double the advertised price of a trip. If you get a black bear, for instance, you would also have to pay for transporting and shipping the meat and for taxidermy services.

Hunting for caribou can cost around $8,000. Fishing is also popular, and prices vary widely depending on length, location and season. It can often be included with other hunts, or you can arrange a trip specifically for fishing.
