The Garmin Forerunner 405 and Garmin Forerunner 305 are global positioning system (GPS) stopwatches from GPS manufacturer Garmin. Major differences exist between the two devices, particularly considering that one of them has more features to complement it as a sports watch.

Main Features

Each GPS stopwatch can store a history of up to 1,000 laps, as well as provide up to 100 locations. The Forerunner 405 has additional features such as possessing up to 50 jogging routes, automatic sync for transferring data to a computer and the ability to share data wirelessly with other designated GPS-based products.

Physical Specifications

The Garmin Forerunner 405 is smaller than the Forerunner 305. It measures 1.88 by 2.78 by 0.646 inches in width, height and depth, respectively; and it weighs 2.11 ounces. By comparison, the Forerunner 305 measures 2.1 by 2.7 by 0.7 inches and weighs 2.72 ounces.

The Garmin Forerunner 405, available in black and green, has a regular manufacturer's retail price of $299.99; the 405s with an additional heart-rate monitor cost $349.99. The Garmin Forerunner 305, at $199.99, is considerably less expensive than its comparatively enhanced sibling.
