Can You Use a Spray-on Bedliner on a Boat?

Spray-on bed liner can be used on boats as well as trucks.

Spray-on bed liners have long been a great solution for refinishing and waterproofing the bed of a pick-up truck. Many spray-on bed liners can also be used to apply non-skid coating to boat decks and other marine surfaces.

Application of Spray-On Bed Liner

Spray-on bed liner should applied using an undercoating spray gun and a compressor at 50 to 60 pounds per square inch. If you are applying it to a boat deck, the deck should be meticulously cleaned and sanded beforehand. Mark the edges of the area you want sprayed with painters' tape or masking tape for a sharp delineation. Many spray-on bed liners can also be applied with a paint roller.

Qualities of Spray-On Bed Liner

Polyurethane spray-on bed liners are durable, weather-resistant and chemical-resistant. Check to make sure the bed liner you want to use is waterproof for all marine applications; not all versions are fully waterproof. Some versions dry on contact; others take a day or two to dry when used on hardwood.

Spray-on bed liner can solve leak problems on boats with decks and trim made of hardwoods such as teak. Two coats of spray-on bed liner may be necessary, providing a deck with a non-skid, non-slippery texture.
