Silverlight 1 and Silverlight 2 are both development platforms designed by the Microsoft Corporation. Silverlight 1 and 2 are used to create applications for the Internet, desktop and mobile devices.

Microsoft released Silverlight 1 on September 4, 2007, while Silverlight 2 was released a year later, on October 14, 2008.

Silverlight 1 supports a wide variety of formats, including AJAX, JavaScript, Windows Media Server, H.264 video, AAC audio and canvas layout. It also has cross-browser support for Firefox, IE (Internet Explorer) and Safari. Additionally, it supports various operating systems, including Windows, Mac and Linux. Silverlight 1 also has HTTP networking, and HTTP DOM integration.

Silverlight 2 is the second version of the Silverlight platform, and features a plethora of upgrades from Silverlight 1. Silverlight 2 includes all of the features from the Silverlight 1 platform, and adds support for Visual Basic.NET, IronPython, Iron Ruby, JScript, media basic SSPL and enhanced keyboard input. It also has remote debugging (PC and Mac), .NET framework security, WPF compatibility, data binding, visual state manager and multithreading technology.
